About the Wine:
Our 2007 Luna Matta Vineyards was barrel fermented in tiny batched in open top hogsheads using 50% whole clusters. The wines spent 30 months in neutral French oak hogsheads and where bottled in March of 2010.

About the Vineyard:
Luna Matta Vineyard is located at 1800ft elevation in the steep limestone hills of Paso Robles’ Westside. The grapes are organically grown by owners John and Jody Ahner and are cropped at yields under 1.2 tons/ acre. The vineyard is a small family run operation that allows for the most pure expression of this spectacular site. Chris and Deanna fine tune the grapes themselves by meticulously pruning and controlling yields.

About the People:
Chris & Deanna King have been working in the local wine industry (retail, winery, & vineyard) for over 10 years. As a husband & wife team they harvest, ferment, bottle, hand label, and sell this extremely small production wine. The label is a silk screen made by Deanna.

De Su Propia Cosecha     2007 Proprietary Red     Luna Matta/Paso Robles     92 Points
A sensational blend…that utilized whole clusters in the winemaking process, this deep ruby/plum-colored wine initially screams kirsch liqueur in the nose, but as it sits in the glass, raspberry, licorice, and lavender aromas emerge. The aromatic complexity is matched by a wine boasting splendid concentration, medium to full- bodied flavors, beautiful purity, and a silky, seductive texture. Drink this super-impressive proprietary red over the next 4-5 years.

" a blend of 52% grenache, 42% mourvedre and 6% syrah) Opaque ruby. Lively aromas of raspberry and cherry are complicated by suggestions of white pepper, flowers and musky herbs. Juicy, precise red fruit flavors give way to a darker cassis element in the mid-palate, with a chalky mineral quality adding verve. Refreshingly pure and nervy on the finish, which strongly echoes the red fruit notes. "

"Inky purple. Deeply pitched aromas of blackberry, blueberry and licorice, with subtle notes of olive and tobacco in the background. Sappy and expansive dark fruit flavors are given spine by tangy acidity and pick up a smoky quality with air. Tannins come on late and add grip to a long, spicy finish. This deserves a few more years of bottle age."
